If you're looking for a quick lunch or want your kids eat more seafood, this salmon rice ball recipe is for you! It's easy, fun to make and the whole family can help shape the rice balls into any form they'd like. It's delicious and only requires a few ingredients!

Ingredients and Method


  • 12 ounces atlantic salmon
  • sea salt
  • freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1.5 tablespoon Japanese Kewpie mayo or regular mayo
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons furikake seasoning
  • 1.5-2 inch individual sliced sushi nori sheets
  • Onigiri mold


  1. Season salmon with sea salt and black pepper
  2. Heat a nonstick pan to medium heat with olive oil
  3. Place salmon skin side down and allow to cook 6-7 minutes on each side or until skin is nice and crispy and salmon is cooked through
  4. Season your cooked white rice with rice vinegar, adjust to your liking and top with furikake seasoning
  5. Using two forks, remove salmon skin and shredded salmon meat. Combine salmon meat, mayo and sriracha. Taste and adjust to the spice level desired
  6. Now use the onigiri mold, layer your rice ball. 1-2 tbsp rice, 1 tbsp salmon meat and top with remaining rice and shape
  7. Take sliced sushi nori and wrap from the center bottom over to the back. Repeat for the remainder and enjoy!
